A list of twenty traditional Catholic catechisms (and three additional reference works) representing some of the best works available in English from 1550 to 1950. The depth, clarity, and continuity of Catholic doctrine observed across four full centuries of approved catechisms is astounding; and may help to show certain trends of contemporary thought and practice as clear deviations from right faith and morals in the Church.
 
Our list adds brief descriptions for each work as well as our own rating criteria, along with hyperlinks for online access where possible. It is advisable that every text with a "three star" be owned in hard copy.
